Fighting for organic Amsterdam: Urban Farming

Just on the west edge of Amsterdam, there is a 4000m2 patch of land where de Stadsgroenteboeren are growing over 60 different vegetables and more than 15 herbs for the local community and the members of our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). The farm is quite small, still, we produce a considerable amount of food by using bio-intensive techniques. At the same time, we are very conscious about keeping our soil fertile and healthy, using compost, green manures and all of nature’s ingenious ways to not only keep, but to actually improve the quality of our piece of land.

We are a team of 5, new to vegetable farming and full of enthusiasm (the farm was opened only one year ago), excited to start that adventure of growing food for the people of Amsterdam! We seek that hard-working but deeply rewarding lifestyle and a job we see sense in. Our goal is to build a community around our veggies. We already have plenty of ideas on how to develop our small farm in the coming years, but now, step by step, we are making things run smoothly first. We believe in transparency, are open to suggestions and want to soak in as much knowledge as possible. Because, when you work with nature, you never stop learning!
