Equal Measures 2030, a recipient of the UN-SDG Awards 2020, is a dynamic initiative that supports feminist organizations and movements with reliable data and evidence. By providing locally-driven and context-specific advocacy, Equal Measures 2030 is working to end systemic discrimination against women and girls. Gender equality champions from all sectors are coming together to tell the story of progress for girls and women, and to date, over 800 women have received data-driven advocacy training from Equal Measures 2030.

Too often, women and girls are invisible, with no data or sexist data on issues that disproportionately affect their lives. If we’re gathering this data, we should darn well use it. --Melinda Gates

From land rights reforms in Kenya to curbing child marriage in Indonesia's national law, Equal Measures 2030's direct engagement model is making an impact. This initiative tracks gender equality progress through the online Gender Advocates Data Hub and the SDG Gender Index, which monitors progress in 129 countries across the Goals. Through its efforts at the local, national, regional, and global level, Equal Measures 2030 is helping to tell the story of progress (and lack thereof) for girls and women.

Equal Measures 2030 is a force for positive change, empowering feminist organizations and advocates with data-driven advocacy and effective collaboration. By working closely with gender equality champions across sectors and engaging marginalized and vulnerable groups, this initiative is generating successful advocacy and promoting best practices in the fight against systemic discrimination against women and girls.

Feminist organizations and movements are crucial in creating sustainable change in gender equality laws, policies, and budgets. With proper funding, data, and data skills, these campaigns can be even more effective, pushing for progress faster than ever. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is especially important, as violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified and progress towards gender equality commitments has taken a step back.

By providing adequate data, tools, and promoting shared learning and collaboration amongst advocates, this initiative is enabling better-informed policy changes and harnessing a global collective effort to accelerate the behavioral shifts needed. Together, we can create a more equitable and just world for all women and girls.
